During the First World War he served as a Military Pilot 1917-1919 and received the Iron Cross [1st and 2nd Class].
Mueller had great admiration to the russian intelligence that he found as the best one, because of this some suspected that he worked for the Soviet Union after the war.
In 1967 two Israeli Mossad agents disguised as robbers attempted to break into his widow's house. Although they were caught, their motive remains unknown.
