British military planned to secretly arm Vichy France behind Churchill`s back
The British military planned to secretly arm Vichy France during the Second World War behind PM Churchill's back, despite the fact they were fighting for enemy forces, new documents have revealed. Confidential papers, unseen until now, show senior members of the Allied forces held a clandestine meeting with representatives of Vichy France - even as their opposing forces were fighting in Madagascar. Not only were Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle unaware of the meeting, they were specifically banned from being told under orders of the British Chief of Staff, who feared their reaction.
Declassified report into Rudolf Hess death fails to answer unexplained questions about Nazi prisoner's suicide
It has been 25 years since leading Nazi Rudolf Hess died in a Berlin prison but a newly-declassified report into how it happened has apparently failed to answer unexplained questions about whether he really did kill himself. The publication of what is said to be a suicide note written "a few minutes before my death" by Hitler's deputy appears to add weight to claims that it had actually been penned in 1969 when he was seriously ill. Photos of the "summer house" in the ground of Spandau Prison where the 93-year-old died seem to deepen the mystery even further.

The Top 10 conspiracy theories about Hitler and the Third Reich

(4) Nazis Had A Secret Moon Base. (6) Nazis Tried to Turn Sand Into Gold. (7) Hitler Had A Base In The Antarctic. (9) Nazi Gold Buried In Lake Toplitz (this is interesting since Nazis in fact buried a lot of stuff in the Lake Toplitz).
FBI release hundreds of pages of files devoted to speculation that Hitler escaped Germany
The FBI has declassified their Adolf Hitler files, which toy with the idea that Führer survived WWII and went into hiding. The FBI investigated claims that the Nazi leader had faked his own death, and the files show lab reports on Hitler's marriage certificate, will, as well as other political documents. The bureau has released 867 pages of files and documents, hundreds of which are devoted to the theory that Hitler escaped the Third Reich and lived safely in Argentina with other Nazi leaders, body doubles, and possibly even Eva Braun after the war.
Rudolf Hess: The enduring mystery of Hitler's deputy's flight to Scotland
Hitler's Deputy Rudolf Hess parachuted into a Scottish field 70 years ago. He was arrested by pitchfork wielding ploughman David McLean on Floor's Farm near Eaglesham, south of Glasgow, in what was to become one of the strangest cases of World War 2. Ever since, mystery has surrounded the Nazi leader's trip. Conspiracy theories have raged about exactly what Hess was doing in Scotland at the height of the war and why official records of the case are under seal until 2017.
BND archives reveal that American and German intelligence services knew where Eichmann was hiding
Files of the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) reveal officials knew that Adolf Eichmann was hiding under the alias of Ricardo Klement in Argentina. "SS colonel EICHMANN ... is residing in Argentina under the fake name CLEMENS. E's address is known to the editor of the German newspaper Der Weg in Argentina," says information on a BND index card dated 1952. Critics think the mastermind of the Nazi Holocaust was not captured to protect both German officials and pro-Nazi clergy in the Vatican who had helped him to escape.
Churchill ordered assassination of Mussolini to protect letters in which Churchill praised Fascism?
French historian Pierre Milza, author of The Last Days of Mussolini, speculates that Winston Churchill may have wanted Benito Mussolini dead to prevent the letters, in which Churchill expressed his admiration for Fascism, to be found. Churchill once said: "Fascism has rendered a service to the entire world..." Despite wearing German officer uniform in a mixed Italian and SS convoy, Mussolini - and his mistress Clara Petacci - were seized by Italian partisans near Dongo on Lake Como. In a 2004 documentary film partisan Bruno Lonati stated he was part of a 2-man team tasked by British SOE to eliminate the couple.
Declassified files reveal how Bush family helped Adolf Hitler's rise to power
The files in the US National Archives confirm that a firm of which George Bush's grandfather Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazi Germany. His business dealings continued even after the Third Reich invaded Poland in 1939 -only stopping after his company's assets were seized in 1942 (the Trading with the Enemy Act). This has led to a billion dollar civil action against the Bush family by Auschwitz slave labourers. Bush family's dealings with the Nazis has got little publicity, partly due to the secret status of the files about the late US senator Prescott Bush.
Stalin's Grand Design to start World War II -thread at Axis History Forum
Stalin's Grand Design to start WWII -thread at Axis History Forum includes some interesting (but highly controversial) documents (from Soviet archives). Stalin's speech: "The experience of the last 20 years has shown that in peacetime the Communist movement is never strong enough to seize power. The dictatorship of such a party will only become possible as the result of a major war... Our war plan is ready ... We can begin the war with Germany within the next two months ... The peaceful policy secured peace for our country ... Now, however, with our reorganized army, which is technologically well prepared for modern warfare... we must now go from defense to attack."
DNA tests reveal that Adolf Hitler's skull fragment in Russia belongs to a woman
In Adolf Hitler biographies the story of Fuhrer's last hours is traditionally this: he committed suicide with Eva Braun by taking a cyanide pill and shooting himself on 30 April 1945. Some historians wondered if the Führer had shot himself, speculating that stories of Hitler's death had been embellished to present his suicide in a heroic light. But a fragment of skull with bullet hole - taken from the bunker by the Russians - seemed to settle the argument. Until now. DNA test by American researchers revealed that the skull fragment, held by Soviet intelligence, belonged to a woman under 40.
The Hiroshima cover-up: How US hide American, Japanese footage from Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Article no longer available from the original source)
After the atomic attacks on Japan - and then for decades afterwards - the United States suppressed all film shot in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This included footage shot by American military crews and Japanese newsreel teams - and all but a handful of newspaper pictures were seized. The public did not see any of the newsreel footage for 25 years, and the American military film stayed hidden for 4 decades. Newsreels might have disappeared forever if the Japanese filmmakers had not hidden one print from the Americans. The color U.S. footage remained hidden until the 1980s, and has never been fully aired - so Americans have not seen the damage wreaked by the bombs.
In 1943 the German High Command offered to turn Wehrmacht against Waffen-SS and help U.S. win the war
In 2002 Charles Fenyvesi was combing through the declassified WWII files at the U.S. National Archives when he came across a surprise. In July 1943 Count Helmuth James von Moltke - the German military intelligence service (Abwehr) representative at the German High Command and an anti-Nazi - made a secret visit to the OSS (the predecessor to the CIA) in Istanbul offering to turn Wehrmacht against the Waffen-SS and make a separate peace with the Americans. Moltke also gave the OSS a list of the high rank Germans involved in the conspiracy: Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt, Field Marshal Wilhelm List, Colonel General Ludwig Beck, Colonel General Franz Halder...
Nazi file from 1944 outlines the Fourth Reich as united European economical power
US Military Intelligence report EW-Pa 128, AKA the Red House Report, is an account of a secret meeting at the Maison Rouge Hotel in Strasbourg on August 10, 1944. There, Nazi officials (led by SS Obergruppenfuhrer Dr Scheid in his tailored grey-green uniform) ordered German industrialists to plan for Germany's postwar recovery, prepare for the Nazi Party's return to power and work for a strong German empire. The industrialists (like Volkswagen, Krupp and Messerschmitt) were to work with the Nazi Party to rebuild Germany's economy by setting up secret front companies abroad. And the Fourth Reich would not a military empire, but an economic empire.
Book claims: diaries of a highly decorated OSS agent reveal a plot to kill Patton
The diaries of an OSS assassin reveal that US spy chiefs wanted General Patton dead because he wanted to expose allied agreement with the Russians that cost American lives. The death of Patton in Dec 1945, is one of the great WWII mysteries. Although he had suffered injuries in a car crash, he was recovering and on the verge of flying home. But Robert Wilcox claims in Target Patton that OSS head "Wild Bill" Donovan ordered Douglas Bazata (4 purple hearts, a DSC and 3 French Croix de Guerres) to silence Patton. Diaries reveal how he set up the car crash by getting a troop truck to run into Patton's car and then shot the general with a low-velocity projectile.
Pearl Harbor: Hawaii Was Surprised; FDR Was Not
In a pre-war gallup 88% opposed U.S. involvement in the war, and in a 1940 speech FDR stated: "Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars." But privately FDR planned the opposite, dispatching Harry Hopkins to meet Churchill in Jan 1941 with the message: "The President is determined that we shall win the war together." During WWII's early days FDR offered numerous provocations to Germany: freezing its assets; shipping destroyers to UK; depth-charging U-boats. The Germans did not react - so FDR switched his focus to Japan. Lieutenant Commander Arthur H. McCollum's memo urged 8 actions to lead Japan into attacking the America. FDR enacted all 8 steps.
Pearl Harbor: Exploring possible reasons and causes
One of the explanations for Pearl Harbor is the role of pro-Communist influences within the FDR administration - many of the Roosevelt's closest advisers were later revealed to be either Soviet spies or communist sympathizers. On June 22, 1941, the Germans had invaded the Soviet Union, and Stalin's biggest fear was that Japan would join its Axis partner and invade from the East. The Soviet agents in the Roosevelt administration panicked in July 1941 and pressed the President to take extreme measures against Japan. The resulting embargo forced Japan to divert attention from Russia, and to instead invade Southeast Asia to get the raw materials.
Nazi graveyard in the rainforest: The Guayana-Projekt. A German adventure on the Amazon
A graveyard of Nazis fixed on creating a 'foreign Fatherland' in the Amazonian rainforests has been discovered. The Nazi relics reveal a 1930s daredevil plan to create a master race in Brazil. The Nazi ruins are recorded in book "The Guayana-Projekt. A German Adventure on the Amazon," which says die-hard Nazis wanted to settle the area like wild west pioneers. On an island on a tributary of the River Jary, author Jens Gluessing found a 9-foot cross marked with swastikas and text: "Joseph Greiner died here on 2.1.1936... in the service of German Research Work." SS race specialist Greiner arrived in 1935 as the forefront of a perceived wave of settlers.
Hundreds of black seamen sacrificed in a-bomb test - Just another conspiracy theory?
On July 17 1944, at the Port Chicago Naval Munitions base, the SS E.A. Bryan was packed with 4,606 tons of explosives as the largest WWII military disaster on the US mainland took place. It was the biggest single loss of black Navy seamen - 15% of all the black WWII casualties. That terrible explosion remains a mostly forgotten, but now a few voices are re-opening the case - asking was the explosion a secret atomic bomb test? While many have ignored the notion as just another crazy conspiracy theory, the detailed research over 20 years by Peter Vogel has given the idea a level of credibility.
The Reichstag fire conviction of Marinus van der Lubbe overturned
Prosecutors have annulled the conviction of Dutch communist Marinus van der Lubbe, accused of burning down the Reichstag building in 1933. He was convicted of arson and high treason and executed on Jan. 10, 1934. It said that the conviction was overturned automatically under a 1998 law enabling the rehabilitation of people convicted of crimes under the Nazis. Historians still argue whether van der Lubbe set the Feb. 27, 1933, fire, which came just a month after Adolf Hitler's rise to power and was followed by the suspension of civil liberties. Some think the Nazis set it themselves to give Hitler an excuse for his crackdown against a "communist conspiracy."
BBC: Prescott Bush planned fascist coup in America
A BBC Radio 4 sheds light on a subject that has received little attention: the conspiracy on behalf of a group of powerbrokers, led by Prescott Bush, to overthrow FDR and implement a fascist dictatorship in America. In 1933, Marine Corps Maj.-Gen. Smedley Butler was approached by a group who asked him to command a 500,000 strong rogue army of veterans that would help stage a coup to topple then Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In 1936 the U.S. Ambassador to Germany, William Dodd, wrote a letter to FDR: "A clique of U.S. industrialists is hell-bent to bring a fascist state... and is working closely with the fascist regime in Germany and Italy..."
Myth of Adolf Hitler's Antarctic bunker and Nazi-resurgence debunked
Story of Adolf Hitler's Antarctic ice bunker might have started with the claim of Admiral Karl Donitz, who said in 1943, "The German submarine fleet is proud of having built for the Fuhrer, in another part of the world, a Shangri-La on land, an impregnable fortress." As far back as 1945, Toronto Daily Star reported that Hitler had not committed suicide in his bunker, but was "on ice in Antarctica," having escaped by u-boat. In 2005, a conspiracy magazine published the first eyewitness account of Hitler's ice bunker. "It's part of the Nazi mythology," said Colin Summerhayes, who has published the most complete debunking yet of a Nazi-resurgence myth.
MI5 file reveals a plot to set up a puppet Nazi government in Scotland (Article no longer available from the original source)
The former SNP leader Arthur Donaldson plotted to set up a puppet Nazi government in Scotland, according to a recently released wartime spy report. An MI5 file on Mr Donaldson, who led the SNP from 1961 to 1969, claims that he conspired to set up a Vichy-style regime with himself as a "Scottish Quisling" in the wake of Hitler's widely-anticipated invasion.
Wartime diary solves mystery of Hess's secret flight
A brief entry in the diary of the wife of a British spy has led to the discovery of the true story behind one of the greatest mysteries of WWII - the bizarre flight to Britain in 1941 of Hitler's deputy, Rudolf Hess. No single incident in Britain's wartime history has given birth to so many conspiracy theories, all of them centred on an alleged plot by the intelligence services to lure Hess to Britain.
With war so widely expected, why was US so ill-prepared?
With war so widely expected, why was US so woefully ill-prepared? Rumours that began in the war are still hanging around, well past their sell-by date, fuelled by revisionist historians and conspiracy cranks. They claim Roosevelt was itching for war with Japan but was constrained by US neutrality, so needed a solid reason to fight. Hence they accuse him of suppressing prior knowledge of the attack, or of provoking it to enable America to enter the war by the back door. Some even say that the attack on Pearl Harbor was deliberately engineered by a crypto-communist president guilty of high treason.
